Correction of Scoliosis

Surgical correction of a scoliosis deformity involves the realignment of the spinal column. Techniques used to achieve this carry certain risks, one of which is damaging the spinal cord resulting in a neurological deficit and even paralysis. The use of multimodal IONM of the sensory and motor pathways can provide valuable information on the function of the spinal cord in a timely fashion, reducing the chance of a reversible injury becoming permanent. This gives the surgeon greater confidence in the outcome of the surgery.
